Who says a flat screen needs to be hanging flat on the wall? Here are some creative ideas sure to spice up any installation.

Deciding on where to put a LCD or Plasma display can be difficult especially if the installer doesn't want a wall mount instillation. It gets fun when people get creative. Try some of these ideas.

Corner Mounting

Flat screens do not necessarily need to be hung flat on the wall they can be angled in a corner with an articulating arm mount. This can be a tricky instillation depending on the size of the screen and where the studs are located in the corner. The arm mount will need to be mounted to the studs on one of the walls and then pulled out and angled to the preferred location. There are many different arm lengths available to aid in this type of instillation since it will need to be long enough to get the desired angle. Corner Mounting a flat screen can really maximize the space of any room giving multiple viewing locations.

Furniture

Who says a flat screen has to be hanging on the wall when it can be sitting on a nice piece of furniture. Something that not only makes a statement but also has a place for extra components like a game system, dvd player or speaker. This is a good solution if there are non-wood studs in the wall or if no holes are allowed.

If sitting on a piece of furniture sounds to traditional what if the screen popped up out of a cabinet. There are lifts that with a push of a button will come up out of a cabinet to the desired viewing height. The lift will push the lid up out of the way of the screen and pull it down as it retracts making it fully automated. Pop up lifts are a great way to conceal a flat screen if space is an issue or if it doesn’t go with the room décor.

Floor Stands

Floor stands are a great way to hang a flat screen if there is a need for mobility or if a wall instillation is not possible. Floor stands are different from a piece of furniture as they actually attach to the stand via holes in the back of the screen. Some stands come with shelves for other audio visual components. This is a good compromise for brick or steel studded walls.

TV Ceiling Mount

A flat screen can be hung from the ceiling using a pole attached to the ceiling joists. Since it can be dropped from anywhere along the joist there are a wide variety of mounting places. There are different accessories available to customize a solution. There are angled ceiling adaptors for vaulted ceilings, swivel adaptors so the flat screen can swivel around to be viewed from different rooms, and different length poles to determine a drop down distance.

There are also a few different types of ceiling lifts. Much like the pop up lift there is a ceiling version that will drop straight down to the desired viewing position and then will retract back up flush with the ceiling at the touch of a button. There are also some lifts that hold the screen against the ceiling and then lowers down much like an under cabinet mount or car visor. Ceiling mounts are a good way to get a screen up and out of the way.
